| w00t, another update |
[Sep. 21st, 2007|07:43 pm] |
Well a lot of that time I figured I'd have to update seems to be gone for the most part but I'll try to remember what's happened in the past 2 weeks or so.
Well, 2 weekends ago was WVU vs Marshall. Friday night was the big Lonestar/Trick Pony concert that I had helped SAPB (Student Activites Programming Board) set up the stage for the night before. The concert was in the middle of 3rd Avenue and there was about 10000 people packed in. I was VIP so me and the rest of the VIPs and SAPB members had our own gazebo and free bar roped off. The concert was really good considering I don't like country music and before each band went on I got to meet them which was awesome. Highlight of the night came when James, the president of SAPB, fucking annihilated a WVU fan who was starting shit and dumped hot coffee on him. The guy got taken out by stretcher, it was tremendous.
The next day was the game itself. I got to the game 2 hours early and ended up with a 3rd row seat in the Marshall Maniac section. The game was intense and by the end of it my voice was gone. It was a much better game than I expected and Marshall hung tough til the 4th quarter and we were actually winning at the half. Apparently, I was also on TV a lot during the game which is just cool. The best part was I actually found my first close group of friends (Rob, Jeremy, Josh, Mike, Randi, Lynsey) at the game and I'm glad I did because they're all awesome and I've been hanging out with them for the past few weeks playing XBox 360 and N64, watching movies, and just chillin' with them. It's definitely made Marshall much more bearable and fun.
At some point during the week after the game I decided to drop Honors Calc, which has also made my college experience much more enjoyable because God I hated that class. I also got my current job that week. I'm now a Student-Manager with the Marshall Men's Basketball Team and it's amazingly fun. I help tape practices, edit film, keep stats, do office work/mail-outs, help with practices and workouts, work the clock, and pretty much help the players and coaches. Any job that let's me chill with a sports team doesn't feel like work to me, I love it. The players are all awesome guys and fun to talk to and hang out with and the coaches are all very appreciative and nice guys. Here's hoping for a good season. I also met Arlen Escarpeta, who played Reggie Oliver (Marshall's Quarterback) in We Are Marshall, which was really cool. He was an awesome guy, even took some time to play cornhole with SAPB members.
Last Saturday was a good one, too. Well, other than Marshall losing to a Division 1-AA team which is pretty embarrassing. Last weekend was my first tournament with the Marshall Ultimate club team. We went up to Morgantown and just completely dominated, going undefeated and winning our first trophy/title ever. It was awesome and everybody just stepped up their game and kicked some ass. I'm so pumped for the next tournament with my teammates who have also become good friends and are all easy going, laid back guys.
So pretty much all is going well which is better than I could say for a few weeks ago. I have a lot to look forward to in the next few weeks. Tomorrow is the bus trip up to Cincy to see Marshall play the Bearcats which should be fun. Next Friday is the trip to Great American Ballpark to see the Reds play the Cubs and to see Audrey (hopefully, if she remembers and/or ever answers her phone when I call), and then the weekend after that I'm coming home, kinda. I'm going to Rutgers to visit and stay with Jasonface and see whoever else I can thats at Rutgers like Val, Jess, Theo, Delan, Cody, etc. Also the next two Thursdays are Thunderbowl Nights, where myself and the rest of SAPB go bowling for free and act like retards, bowl like retards, and just have a good time. |

| OMGWTFBBQ AN UPDATE! |
[Sep. 3rd, 2007|10:18 pm] |
Well, I never thought I'd see the day when I'd update this again but now I'm in college finding myself with more freetime than before so I figure I might start regularly updating this again.
Anyway, a lot has happened in the past 2 weeks. I moved in 2 1/2 weeks ago to the place I'll be calling my home for about the next 8-9 months and I actually like it so far. It's not really small, plenty of space to put crap, and I have pretty much everything I need. It's currently covered in Dave Matthews, AC/DC, Grateful Dead, Beatles, and Transformers posters (the last of which I can assure is not my doing). It's on the 13th floor of Towers East here at Marshall which gives a cool view out the window but a bitch of an elevator ride if I'm running late. Also fire drills aren't particularly fun for obvious reasons. I do have A/C though which is nice, especially since it's been between 90-100 every day since I've been here.
My roommate, Tyrell, is awesome which was something I was kinda worried about before moving in because I'm me and he's black and from Brooklyn. Then I found out he likes anime and computer games rather than gangster rap and du-rags and it calmed my nerves a lot. He's really cool and I've met some awesome people through him and he seems to be able to locate a party any day of the week so he comes in very handy.
I love my classes so far for the most part. They are as follows:
Fundamentals of Speech Communication. Very easy and taught by an awesome Grad Assistant. He's really laid back which is good since the class is at 8 A.M. and I know I'm going to oversleep it more than a few times. I think I'll probly ace this class since I love to talk and never get nervous giving a speech.
Development of Physical Education and Sports in the US. Anyone who's met me knows I'll kill this class. My teacher is a really cool older professor who writes articles and books and has been at Marshall for 36 years (I think) and this is his last semester. He tells a lot of corny jokes and I hear his tests are hard but the class is full of jocks and there's a bunch of extra credit so how hard could it be.
First Aid. Definitely my second favorite class. I only have this once a week on Wednesday night for 2 1/2 hours. The teacher is awesome and really down to earth and has a really cool teaching style. He gives us lecture but then reinforces it with real life situations and asks how we would handle it.
Introduction to Honors. This class is new student seminar with all honors students. My teacher for this is the Dean of students so needless to say I learn quite a bit about the school from him. This class has my favorite people in it by far. They all seem to be really cool and chill. Unfortunately it's only an 8 week class, wish this one went longer and some of the others didn't.
Finally, my favorite (sarcasm), Calculus I Honors. I'm still not quite sure why I didn't drop this class. I really don't need to take it, I could take 3 credits of any math and I'd be done forever but I'm taking this monstrosity. First off, I'm a Sport Management and Marketing major and everyone else is in either science or math or something like that. I'm probably the only person in my major to ever take this class, at least the Dean thinks so. Secondly, I have this class every single day for the rest of the semester. 5 credits of hell for me. If Mr. Stoye was teaching it I'd probably be fine. I mean, I actually like the teacher a lot, it's just that Mr. Stoye always had a way of explaining things so I could understand it. I have a feeling I'm going to be getting in touch with him at some point to help me out. I already miss being able to do my Calc homework in Naval Science the class period before it was due with Amanda and Tori.
I'm really looking forward to next weekend when we have our first home football game of the year against our biggest rivals, WVU. That rivalry is worse than Yankees - Red Sox. WVU is never reffered to as such, but rather, "That school up north", "South Pittsburgh University", or as some shirts have put it, "The Brokeback Mountaineers". I was luckily able to get a ticket to the game and even though it should be bad news bears for us, it's gonna be a hell of a time. I'll be yelling and screaming from my section along with the rest of the Marshall Maniacs.
Freshman Convocation was actually pretty fun. We paraded down 4th Ave. to the Keith Albee. A lot of people gave speeches, blah blah. Everyone was there to win a football ticket to make sure they didn't miss out because they were sold out. At the end the author of the book we had to read over the summer gave a speech. Her name was Jeannette Walls and she wrote a memoir called The Glass Castle which I surprisingly really liked, mostly because it wasn't sugar coated at all and was real. Best summer reading I've read since Bodega Dreams. After that I went over to the library to meet her and get her to sign my book which took awhile but was pretty cool, She was amazingly nice.
What else is there... well my floor on towers seems to be pretty sick. I really like most of the people on it. A lot of fellow Guitar Hero players, most of them better than me. The kid the next room over, Drew, is one of the coolest people I've met so far. We chilled at Freshman Convocation, both narrowly missing out on winning Marshall/WVU tickets. Other cool people on my floor include, Isaac, Dan, Corey, and a slew of others who's names I forget because I'm terrible with names. My RA is really awesome, too. Mark is the most laid back, easy going person ever and he's helped me out with so many of my questions since I've been here. Finally there's Brandon. Brandon is one of my roommates friends. He's also from Brooklyn and he's funny as hell. He's a football player and is transferring to Tennessee at the end of the semester (probably) to play on their team next year. He's a sophomore and lives in an apartment across the street. The coolest thing about him though is that even though he doesn't take shit and is a big angry intimidating black man (although the NAACP would beg to differ, they told him he wasn't "black enough" for a scholarship) he's really friggin smart and has like a 3.5 GPA so he's great to have a conversation with. Also, since he's from Brooklyn he has street smarts and is really easy to relate to as well as being politically incorrect. He's also a pretty good Mario Kart 64 player which is always a plus in my book.
Last but not least is Huntington. I pretty much love this town. It's like Red Bank only not as expensive. It's fully devoted to Marshall which is great because I can get discounts and there is so much aimed toward college kids. It should be a fun next 4 (hopefully) years. |

| | Decrescendo by RX Bandits | ] | So today I woke up around 10 and showered and got ready to go into NYC. My family drove into Jersey City and then took trains from there. We then went to transfer from PATH to MSG. On the way there we passed the building of my favorite channel, FUSE, so I of course took a picture.
In Penn Station, I took the stairs while my parents took the escalator and I had to wait for my parents. It was then that I learned a lesson of NYC, don't stand still or people will try to talk to you. A person of color came up to me and tried to sell me candy, telling me it was "for the childrens". I then yelled, "Fine, but give me back my jacket, I said you could borrow it not have it." I can out crazy the best of them. We took the subway over to 42nd street and walked to the Al Hirschfeld theater to see The Wedding Singer.
The show was amazing. Stephen Lynch was hilarious, actually everyone was. His friend Sammy, effeminate George, douchebag Glen, Julia, the slutty sister who's name I can't remember, Rosie the old lady (and Robbie's grandma in the musical), the bum in the bar, the mutants at table 9. All of them were casted perfectly and hysterical. The songs were all amazing too. The story was a little different in certain aspects than the movie, but all the changes were either minor or very different but still hilarious. After it ended I bought a T-shirt that says 1985 on the front and says "Simply Wed Tour" on the back with a list of weddings that Robbie Hart played at, all in NJ, which was most of the reason I bought it. Then we walked up to Times Square and over to Bubba Gump's Shrimp Company for dinner. While waiting to be seated I took a bunch of pictures of TS.

At Bubba Gump's I had Onion Rings as an appetizer and for dinner I had Beer-Battered Mahi Mahi with Fries. Words can't describe how delicious it was. The fish melted in my mouth, it was just perfect. They had a Forrest Gump Trivia contest which I totally owned at because like I always say, I know everything. Then we started walking to the subway to catch the train to come home. On the way I took some amazing photographs of things that made me laugh and that I've never seen before.
The first was this guy. I walked by, saw the sign, kept walking, then did a double take and almost died laughing. I gave him 50 cents. One quarter to take a picture and another to tell him to get a job. Best 50 cents I ever spent.
The other was this. Yes, that would be a Chinese Jew. I didn't think they existed but boy was I wrong. I laughed my ass off for a good 5 minutes after I saw this. My dad didn't believe me that we just passed a Chinese Jew so I had to take a picture to prove it to him. We then took the PATH train to Jersey City and then came home. It was a great day. Best day of summer so far. |

| Bored is setting in |
[Mar. 19th, 2006|08:45 pm] |
I'm extremely bored so I've resorted to updating my LJ, I really don't care if anyone answers there. I just need something to do.
Lyric game:
Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random. Step 2: Post the first line from the first 15 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song. Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from. Step 4: Bold out the songs when someone guesses correctly. Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
1. "How many roads must a man walk down before you can call him a man?"
2. "Must of been mid afternoon, I could tell by how far the child's shadow stretched out"
3. "I woke the other day and saw my world has changed"
4. "Sometimes I feel I've got to run away, I've got to get away."
5. "I declare I don't care no more, I'm burning up and out and growing bored."
6. "It's funny how your worst enemies always seem toturn out to be all of your best friend's best friends."
7. "I know what lies beneath, I've seen the flash of teeth conspiring with the reef to sink our ship."
8. "Don't lift me up with your strong intent of dropping me back down."
9. "Annie's 12 years old, in two more she'll be a whore, nobody ever told her it's the wrong way"
10. "Ecstasy is all you need living in the big machine now"
11. "Nice girls not one with a defect, Cellophane shrink-wrapped, so correct."
12. "Life, is floating fast away. But I look, your head is turned away."
13. "When it's time to party we will party hard."
14. "On your mark ready set let’s go, dance floor pro I know you know I go psycho when my new joint hit."
15. "I see a red door and I want it painted black." |

Leave your name and 1. I'll respond with something random about you. 2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you. 3. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me. 4. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you. 5. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of. 6. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you. 7. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal. You MUST.
And now onto today.
Precalc: We had a 5 question test today. I wasn't aware of it but took it anyway. I probably failed miserably. I love that class though. Me, Savy, Theo, and Adam just chill for like the last 30 miuntes listing to stand up comedy, it's amazing. Adam was listening to it today on my mp3 player, it was hilarious. He would just be like "Haha, sandwiches." Priceless.
Physics: Words cannot describe my hate for this class. Mr. P has got to be the worst teacher in the entire world. He actually forgets what he's saying mid-sentence, it's almost sad. We have him until February, hooray. Then we get Godkin, I'm so thrilled. I got my proposal shot down because it wasn't specific enough, that put me in a good mood.
Lunch: Drill Team today. We had tryouts for Armed Exhibition today. I totally owned that shit with my left handed fire wheel power and my ability to do a single flip. I still can't do a Queen Anne's Salute though. I always go down on the wrong knee. I made the team though so yay for me. I also read over my play scripts at lunch, that's gonna be fun.
English: Nothing really worth noting in there at all. We watched Hamlet and Mr. Meyers changed due dates around, that's about it.
History: Took my make-up test and then we talked about the maps made last class. I sat next to Kristin today, 'twas fun, her map was hilarious. All the poor people lived in the swamp, haha.
Academic Team Try-Outs: We had the written test today. I totally owned that shit. 15 out of 30, 3rd highest score along with Zwingraf. I didn't make the team though. It was a bunch of bullshit. It was John, Justine, Zwingraf, Devin, Max, and fucking Stoye. Stoye wasn't even there but he got put on the team anyway. What kind of bullshit is that? After that we played Trivial Pursuit and I owned everyone.
After that I came home and chilled with Rob and that's about it. It was a pretty normal day for the most part. |

| | Shadows Fall | ] | So yesterday was Ozzfest, one of the greatest days of my entire life to say the least. It started off with me waking up at about 9 and eating lunch at about 10:15 before Matt picked me up and we were on our way to PNC. Matt, Herb, and I hid our cameras so they wouldn't be taken away and met with Ryan before we went in. Since it was 11 we had missed 4 bands on the second stage including Arch Enemy and The Haunted who I would have liked to seen but it wasn't a big deal considering the heat. Up until 3 the day could be summarized as walking around, listening to or watching the second stage bands, taking some pictures of Black Label Society at the meet and greet tent, having the lead singer of Shadows Fall (Brian Fair) walk right past us and not noticing until it was too late, and drinking lots of water and sweating to death. At 3 they opened up the seats and it basically made my life. I was so happy that I got to sit in the shade after that heat all morning. The first band up was In Flames who played while Matt and Ryan were over seeing Rob Zombie on Stage 2. In Flames was surprisingly good. After they finished, me and Herb went up to get food then went back to the seats to eat. Matt and Ryan came back about the time we finished to see BLS play. They were awesome. Suicide Messiah, Fire It Up, and Stillborn were the highlights for me. Next up was Shadows Fall, a band that I really like and was looking forward to seeing. I didn't watch their whole set though because we all got up to walk around to give our ears a rest. The next band was Mudvayne who I absolutely can't stand so I split up from everyone because I was pretty pissed at certain person(s) so I walked around until their last song because I didn't want to miss any of Iron Maiden's set. Iron Maiden was absolutely amazing. Bruce Dickinson was fucking crazy and jumping around like nuts and the whole band was just tearing up the stage. During their set we saw Juliya from FUSE walk right past us twice which was pretty cool. After they finished, Black Sabbath took the stage and I almost pissed myself with excitement. They were better than I could have ever hoped for. They played their songs with so much energy and the entire crowd was going absolutely off the walls. Also, at some point during the day I bought a Shadows Fall shirt which is really sweet. After Ozzfest was over, we went out to the parking lot, Matt's mom picked us up and we went home. It was a tremendous day, I can't wait until next year. |

| My oh so amazing week |

| | Brother Bleed Brother by Finch | ] | Well, this week hasn't been as boring as most because unlike the other ones, I did something besides play video games. Tuesday I went to Bradley Beach with my friend Jay from Staten Island and my mom and his mom. We played some beach football and baseball. Went over to the mini golf course where he proceeded to kick my ass in back to back games. I did win a free game though, which I was surprised about cuz I usually suck at those last holes. Then of course we jumped in the water. It wasn't too cold which was good plus the waves were pretty damn big which was sweet. After awhile we all were drying off to leave and a huge wave came and crashed into chairs and all of our clothes and shit and my friend's bag actually was dragged into the ocean at which point I had to swim out and get it. I thought it was funny as hell and laughed about it right after it happened although my mom did not find it nearly as funny and threatened to beat the shit out of me if I didn't shut up. Part of the week was also dedicated to reading Half Blood Prince. I thought it was a pretty good overall. Not the best, but not the worst. It had some scenes that were great and some whole parts were just pointless and dragging. Thursday, my family got a new car. It's a red Hyundai Santa Fe SUV and it's pretty damn nice for a truck. I'm just glad I don't have to drive it because I don't really trust anything with about 3 different roll over warnings posted inside of it. Saturday, my dad's company ran a Day at the Races at Monmouth Park. Since he runs all the 50/50s and stuff, it means I have to do a shitload of work because he leaves me to do it and goes around bullshitting with everyone. Usually I pick some winning exactas and stuff at the track but not this time, so that sucked. The food was great though so that was probably the best part of the day. The worst part was definitely selling the 50/50s because we were selling an arm length for 10 dollars (my arm length) and everyone was coming up and telling me to measure their damn arms. I'm pretty sure I told some of them to go fuck themselves. The only good part of that was that my dad gave me 30 bucks for doing it so that wasn't bad at all. When the last race was over, we went to Houlihan's. This part of the day was damn fun because the food was awesome and I got to play the NTN trivia game on the TV and whoop everyone in the bar, especially during the music trivia game. Well, thats pretty much everything that happened that I remember or feel like talking about. Peace |

| Hey look, an update |
[Jul. 13th, 2005|09:29 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | exhausted | ] |
| [ | music |
| | Motion City Soundtrack | ] | Wow, I almost forgot I even had this. I plan to update it more often now that it's summer and frankly, I have nothing else to do. Well, I figure I'll start with what I did this past weekend and go from there.
Saturday: Went to Sears with my dad and bought a treadmill, got a good deal on it because the floor model was the only one left so we took that one. We arranged to get it delivered the following Wednesday. After that we went to Red Bank so I could use the Jack's Music gift cards I got for my birthday that I never got to use. I got 3 CDs: Mezmerize by System of a Down, Say Hello to Sunshine by Finch, and Who Killed...The Zutons? by The Zutons. They're all damn good. Thanks for the cards Sam and Jess(a little late, I know). Next we went to Murphy Style Grill and I had the best damn cheeseburger I have ever eaten; fries were good, too. Then we went to Shoprite and home. All in all it was a pretty good day.
Sunday: Easily the best day of the summer so far. Woke up around 8 and got dressed around 9. Left for Savy's house around 9:30 and got there a little after 10. We left from his house about 10:30 and set out for Williamsburg Brooklyn for the annual Feast of the Giglio at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. When I got there I was like a little kid on Christmas. First of all, it was just awesome to be around so many guineas like myself. Second, it was huge. Whole streets were closed off and stands were everywhere and everything just smelled so good. Third, I couldn't believe the good spot we had set up. After we set up the tables and stuff we headed a few blocks away to Tony's Pizzeria. I had 2 slices and a small Lemon Ice. There is nothing like Brooklyn pizza no matter what anyone says, it tasted so damn good. Then we went back and bought a shitload of zeppoles for Savy's friends and family and for us of course. They too were practically orgasmic(I don't usually describe food this way because it's kinda fruity but if you had eaten these you would have known there is no other word to describe them). While this was going on we met a news reporter from Channel 11 WB News and Savy's cousin's friend, boxer Vinny Madalone who was a really nice guy. Also the biggest part of the day happened, the procession of the Giglio statue/tower thing. It's a 50 foot, 3 ton tower with models of saints on it as well as a full band, singer and priest that is carried throughout the street by the Giglio lifters for a few hours. It was absolutely ridiculous. After that I sorta wandered off by myself for a little while, winning a Sopranos picture and buying a t-shirt, bracelet, and other odds-and-ends for myself. Soon after that, we left. At 10 that night I watched WB News at 10 and sure enough you could see Savy and Andrew. Although Savy would not have been in the picture had I not pushed him into it. And so ended my first Feast of the Giglio and frankly, it was amazing.
Monday and Tuesday: I have no idea what the fuck I did, but I'm pretty sure whatever I did was fun.
Today: For whatever reason I woke up at like 8. I was pretty pissed. So I went into the living room and played some games on the computer until about 11:30. Then the treadmill was delivered and set up. It looks good. After that I played some more computer games on the-n.com. They're so lame but so fun. One is a high school where you control 8 people and you can mess with the and shit, it's funny as hell. I gave everyone B.O. at the same time and all you say was stink lines everywhere. I also played this turn based prom game where you had to make people happy and stuff. They had hit points and it was basically like Final Fantasy which explains why I liked it. At 2:30 Rob came over and I got him addicted to those games, too. He laughed so hard at the stuff you could do to people on Avatar High. Then we chilled and watched some Maximum Exposure which is one of the greatest shows of all time. Then he left and I had KFC for dinner followed up by a half an hour on the treadmill. I thought I was gonna die but it was rewarding when I was done.
Well that's it, I'm out. |

We finished our labs for Chem and then was lunch, Played football as usual, didn't do bad. Spanish was easy, too. In English we wrote our essay first drafts, I finished mine with like 10 minutes left so I did nothing. B Schedule wasn't even bad except it was kinda cold. I was a squad leader for awhile and Zwingraf was guide for awhile then MPO. Stayed after for Improv which we totally rocked at. I can't even remember some of the stuff from it but we played for 2 and a half hours and had people laughing the entire time, it was a lot of fun. That's about it for now, I'm out.
